How to Write a Website Brief for Your Developer
A clear brief saves time, money and misunderstandings. Use this simple template to explain your website project to any developer.

A good website brief helps your developer understand what you need, give an accurate quote and deliver the right result the first time.
1. About your business
Describe what you do, who your customers are and what makes you different.
2. Goals for the website
What should the site achieve? More enquiries, online sales, bookings, or less admin for your team?
3. Pages you need
List the main pages — for example Home, About, Services, Blog and Contact — and any special pages.
4. Features
Note things like online booking, payments, member areas, multiple languages or CRM integration.
5. Design direction
Share your logo and brand colours, plus two or three websites you like and why.
6. Content
Who will provide text and images? Do you need help with copywriting or photography?
7. Budget and timeline
Share a budget range and any important dates. It helps the developer suggest the best approach.
8. After launch
Will you need ongoing support, updates or training?
